Alex
Spanos says what he means and means what he says: ''Please read
the information on this website and decide for yourself where you
want to play. We are certain you will choose the A.G. Spanos Tour.''
About
Alex
An
avid golfer and scratch player in his earlier years, Mr. Spanos
retained his love of the game. In 1999, he opened the Reserve at
Spanos Park in Stockton, CA, a par-72, 7,000-yard course designed
by golf course architect Andy Raugust. The Reserve is already considered
one of the finest public courses in Northern California and has
been the site of several PGA and US Open qualifying rounds. Mr.
Spanos created a family owned "Fortune 400" company in
the real estate and construction industries. In 1984 he fulfilled
a lifelong dream of owning a professional sports franchise when
he purchased the San Diego Chargers. Under his ownership, the Chargers
won the AFC Championship in 1994 and played in the 1995 Super Bowl
for the first time in the team's history.
The
men running this tour are experienced as well, to say the least.
Tournament director John McCarthy has run golf events for more than
25 years. Doug Ives, the personnel and office manager, owned as
operated the Golden State Tour for 22 years before selling it in
July of 2004. McCarthy remains the owner of the California Golf
Tour.
